Jim Thompson called to tell us that Paul's sister called Jim  about Paul's recent passing. Apparently, Paul had been recovering from some previous  surgeries that developed complications requiring another surgery from which he did not fully recover. Paul's  death came as great shock to Jim as the two friends had planned to get together this coming summer. RIP Paul Atkinson.
