I received the following e-mail from Meigs Meyer over the weekend:

Ken Murray was killed in a private airplane crash in Utah in the late 70's
(1978?). He was returning from a trip to Las Vegas when the plane he was a passenger on nosed into the ground. I received a letter from his sister Colleen along with a newspaper clipping and an obit. Just thought I should pass this on since I heard a lot of Ken's classmates were asking about him at the last reunion.

I am so sad to hear about Kenny. He was the guy I have always looked for at the reunions because he had such a goodness about him. I remember seeing him down at UCSB and sometimes visiting at the College of Marin, and wondered why everyone had lost touch with him. I would sure like to send his sister my condolences if Meig sees this message. Kenny was such a kind person, I assumed he had become a Pediatrician or some noble poet laureate and this many years later it hurts to think the world lost such a fine human being.

I too, while we have our old and dear friends in our thoughts and in our hearts because of this reunion, want to pay tribute to Ken. I consider him at the top of my best friends list from high school. There was the troika of Ken, Meigs Meier, and myself. Not sure what the bond was, but I enjoyed the hanging out that we did. I think we were lined up alphabetically in sophmore PE, and somehow stayed connected after that. Ken's dad drove the two of us down to UCSB for a look around before we both committed to enroll there. I didn't see a whole lot of Ken during our years there but I saw him enough to continue to feel connected as we transitioned our way into maturity through those crazy 60's and 70's. Ken was a good man and a good friend. I feel fortunate that he was part of my life.

Peace- Peter Mills

I was very sorry to see this news about Ken's passing in a plane crash so long ago. We hardly knew each other in high school but we shared an apartment our sophomore year at UCSB and became good friends and had a lot of laughs together. He left to go to Utah after that year and we exchanged a couple of letters the next year or so, but I think the last time I saw him was about 1974 or 75 when I lived in Sausalito. Several people asked me about him at the 10 year reunion but I hadn't heard anything from him for some time even then. I've always missed the silliness we shared. He was a good, genuine guy.

I HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE SITE FOR A WHILE AND JUST READ THE NEWS ABOUT KEN MURRAY. KEN WAS A REALLY GREAT FRIEND FROM VALLECITO THROUGH TLHS. WE SHARED HAY FEAVER TOGETHER IN 7TH AND 8TH GRADE. IF IT WAS NOT FOR KEN, I WOULD NEVER HAVE PASSED MATH. I RAN INTO KEN WHEN I WAS DOWN IN UCSB PLAYING A GIG ON DEL PLAYA FOR A HUGE HOUSE ON THE CLIFFS. I TOLD KEN THAT I WAS SORRY IF I SOUNDED FUNNY BECAUSE I HAD JUST DROPPED CLEAR LIGHT. HE SAID HE ALSO WAS IN THE ZONE TOO. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM ON THE PLANET. I WILL MISS HIM ALWAYS. OH YES, WE WERE GOING TO EGG WALLY REIDS HOUSE BUT NEVER GOT UP THE NERVE.

Ken was a great  friend to many in our class. He is sorely missed by those who knew him and I know for myself that I always wondered what happened to our friend. Ken started college at UCSB in 1968 with a bunch of us but  he left after a few years to attend school in Utah. I lost touch with him after he left UCSB.  Meigs Meier's letter on this site illuminated  the fact that Ken died in a plane crash in the late 1970's. I just found the newspaper clipping supporting the details Meigs wrote about.  Ken died March 4, 1979. He was 28 years old at the time. Rest in peace our dear  friend.

Ken was a casual friend since we both lived on Barberry Ln. he was friendly and funny and a good athletr. Solid part of football team.  The unusual thing I remember is his after school fight with ended way toPhil Dwight, two bad asses. I remember thinking its the first fight I saw where both of them could end up in the ER .  Sadly another life ended way too soon.

Does anyone in the class know Ken Murray's older sister, Colleen? I received an email yesterday to this site from a friend of Ken's and his sister:

" I was a friend of Ken Murray. I'm looking for his sister, Colleen, and have no way of contacting her. I have photos which may be items his sister may want. I realize this may be a longshot, butI thought I would try, I knew Ken in the early 70's in Saly Lake City when he worked for his brother in law, and Ken was a very close friend to my brother, Reid Davis. Thank you for your time, Carolyn Davis Southard

I can put you in touch with Carolyn if you can help her with contact info for Colleen Murray. Just message me on this site. Thanks, friends!
