Mike was a good friend all through high school.  I have many favorite memories of Mike but one sticks in my mind.  Mike and I were Terra Linda Firefighters from 1967 until TLFD was absorbed in to the City of San Rafael.  One evening, Mike, Rich Green and I were working on a science project in Mikes garage.  We were making rocket fuel for a rocket we hoped to launch for the project.  The process consisted of mixing several chemicals then heating them up on a burner.  Well, the mixture got a little to hot and the next thing the rocket fuel ignited in the pot in the garage.  There was so much smoke and fire I thought the building was going to burn down.  I could see the headlines in the IJ "Volunteer Firefighters burn down house in Terra Linda."  Fortunately the fire burned itself out pretty quickly and we were able to get the residual smoke out of the garage before anybody noticed.  Just as we got the last bit of smoke out, Mike's Dad popped his head out the garage door and found the teenage boys (perfect little angeles) studying their chemistry.  I could tell you about the car race around China Camp, but that's another story.

Wow. This is very sad. I lost touch with Mike until now. He was my best chum. We hung out a lot. Helped him work on his green '55 Chevy. Lots of engine and trans work in the fire station(!). I think he later raced it at the track. Our "test drives" were quite exciting. Mike was a joyful and easy-going dude. Always had fun when with him. He joins the roster of other great souls that were in our class group...

This is a picture of Mike from the 1967 TLHS yearbook. There is no senior portrait of Mike. RIP Mike.
