In Memory

Bill Mackey

Trudy Emmons contacted me to report that her good friend, Bill Mackey, died many years ago but was never entered in memory. Trudy wrote to me that Bill was her brilliant friend that had his own story that most people who knew him didn't know. Trudy has lots of Bill's beautiful art work that she has saved all these years. Trudy talked to Bill's brother, Christopher. I remember Bill, mostly from Santa Venetia Junior High School. I can picture him in my old memory and recall that he was always very nice to me. RIP Bill Mackey.

Bill was a very insightful young man; we had many long meaningfull talks, durning and after class.

I remember Bill from Art class where her was very good at making batik portraits of rock and roll musicians. I remember the ones he did of the Beatles. Therefore, he had the name Billy Batik. He was a really good guy.

Bill Mackey and Doug Gower and I would get together at Doug's house every morning. We had a ritual. I'd roll joints, Doug's mom would make tea and toast and we'd smoke a couple of joints before heading out to school. Bill and I had a first period art class so this routine worked well for us. Bill was a brilliant guy, a great actor and very talented artist.
We worked together after high school days making residential repairs and remodels. I met up with his brother Steve, at at Santa Venetia event where he gave several pictures of Bill.

Did you know Bill slept with Janis Joplin at a party at her house in '68?!?!
